CastlevaniaRL: Bullet-time [0.8.2]
CastlevaniaRL is a traditional roguelike inspired by the Castlevania series. Six different classes armed with an array of skills challenge the castle of Count Dracula and their many monsters. You can play online for free at https://slash.itch.io/serenade-of-chaos or check the source code at https://github.com/slashman/castlevaniarl (yes, it’s open source!)
Another quick version, prompted by a bug report in reddit with the Orb of Recall crashing the game; however that alone didn’t warrant a new build, so I bundled a couple of important small changes.
First off, monsters will now not step on you when jumping over you; they’ll stop one tile before if there’s no space to land.
Also, the charge and jump actions have been improved so you can more easily visually keep track of what’s going on; you’ll see the monsters (and your own character) moving one tile at a time instead of magically teleporting away.
Finally, on the technical aspect, I brought something from the very old versions of Expedition: a update checker which runs on startup connecting to slashie.net to make sure you are running the latest version of the game (the nuances of downloadable games)

Hi Slashie, I like to play these in ascii mode in a terminal (launching java -jar <game> jc) - 0.8.0 works as expected, I haven't tried 0.8.1, but 0.8.2 has some graphical glitches. Occasionally odd characters appear all over the screen. It seems like some of the inputs were changed as well. Hard to explain, but have you tested the ascii/terminal mode of this version?
I did some smoke tests in 0.8.2 and it seemed to work fine; can you post more details about it on the forums, maybe a video will be helpful if possible. I promise I'll take a look :)
