Emerald Woods - The Magic Backpack [0.4.0]

A new version of Emerald Woods, the chill no-combat farming, building, and exploration roguelike, is now available!

It’s been just about one week since the last version, I decided to jump in and create one last version before 2023 ends, and complete the 0.4.0 milestone. This version includes audio and usability improvements. Let’s jump into the changes!

In order to complete the last item on the roadmap for 0.4.0, a new biome has been added! the “cold caves” are rocky caverns, cold. Carbon and Iron Ore can be mined from within, and they are wetter than the rest of caves, including water reservoirs and tunnels. The previous cavern lakes and rivers have been removed, as we transition to more elaborate generation.

Talking about carbon, it’s now required to build campfires; you can also burn wood in campfires to create more carbon.

QuietGecko added a bunch of sound effects including snow and ice footsteps, actions for digging snow, breaking ice, mowing tall grass, cutting tree branches, jumping into water, swimming, crafting snowmen and more!

Not only that but there’s also now a very cool underwater ambience, just don’t let it relax you too much… drowning is still the most dangerous thing that can happen to you in the woods!

Finally, some important usability improvements were done for item handling; items will now be added automatically to your backpack if they can’t fit in your main inventory, and you’ll access materials from within the backpack when crafting or cooking!
